Examining Exercises for Collocation Learning: An Eye-tracking Study
Are you currently a student at Western University and speak English as a second language? Dr. Deanna Friesen, Dr. Frank Boers and Dr. Ruslan Suvorov are conducting a study about language exercises for collocation learning. Collocations are word partnerships, such as meet a deadline, heavy rain, and highly contagious. Despite being popular in textbooks for learning English, little is known about how to effectively teach collocations in language exercises. This study examines how learners process collocation in multiple-choice exercises. If interested, you would be invited to 2 sessions (a week apart) where you would do collocation exercises while your eye-movements are tracked. You would also complete a questionnaire about your language background and do an English vocabulary task. Each session would take approximately 1 hour and you will be compensated with a $25 Amazon gift card for each session.
